welcome.

Welcome to my conscious parenting community- a place to share stories; tips for parenting, starting with little sprouts and how to help them flourish into the amazing humans that are; sharing tips on budgets and preparing for the future; learning about products that support you and your family; lifestyle tips, like how to travel with your kids and what to pack for the plane, train and automobile; and to hear from some of the amazing thought leaders and people passionate about helping you help your family.

Floruit is another word for flourish. A sprout is the byproduct of seed growth when provided with love, attention, and sunlight, grows into something beautiful. Just like little ones.

Just for a moment let's pause and explore the concept of what a child can do, if his or her body is operating at his or her highest level, and what that could mean. When a body is free of the obstacles that can hold it back, a child will be able to: listen, follow directions, feel their emotions on a higher level (which improves behavior), move their tongue to explore sounds and textures, and receive stimulation to their nervous system as it should be. This is possible; an imbalance in the nervous system is not permanent, it is more like a speed bump along their growth.

Conscious parenting is an approach that explores the concept that emotional intelligence is a large cornerstone of allowing kids to behave like kids- with emotional outbursts, or tantrums, and allowing growth through exploring and asking so many questions in an environment that fills them up instead of being reactionary. This concept can be challenged by parents but not disregarded or undervalued. The response to a child is more of a reflection of the adult than ever with the child; they are our mirrors.

When anyone has an imbalance in their nervous system they automatically become sensitive to stimulus due to the body entering flight, fight, and freeze mode. If the body becomes stuck in this state, the nervous system is turned way up and staying there desensitizes the actual "emergency" state we should save up for in times of actual danger. In order to bring the nervous system down out of this mode it takes some bodywork, movement, and asking the question, "What do you need right now?".

My practice for the past 8 to10 out of the 20 years has focused on pediatrics. I've helped kids find peace within their body tissue and help their nervous systems find rest, a skill that is not super mainstream...yet. My goal for kids is to flourish. My goal for families is to be present and find the balance of life. My moto is that when we heal a child we then heal the family; more so when you heal a family you heal a community, and even bigger, we can heal a generation. Just imagine that possibility. An entire generation of people who can regulate their emotions, exhibit their emotional intelligence, and read the emotions of others to respond appropriately.

This blog is going to be an extension of what I offer in my clinical practice-the millions of lessons I've learned from my world of mentors, teachers, educators, and lastly, the tens of thousands of bodies I have touched with therapeutic intention.

So on behalf of myself and my teachers, who are tiny humans who want me to share their stories and knowledge with their parents, welcome to my world of conscious parenting. I am thrilled you're here.

Becky
